The great evictions of the town land of Coolmanagh took place over fifty years ago. There were nine or ten families evicted and put out of their farms. The Land League supplied them with huts to live in and the neighbouring farmers gave them food. There was many disturbances, and it was feared that there would be acts of retaliation so there were 150 policemen drafted to Hacketstown and billeted there and also fifty two Hussars in order to preserve peace during the time of evictions. After a couple of years those who were evicted got back to their places- Informant
