  1. Long ago the old men were very handy, and they made their own candles, baskets, and many other things. They thatched their own houses also. When they wanted to make candles, they got rushed and tied them together, then they dipped them in melted fat.
Whenever they wanted to light them, they held them to the fire and then they made a fine light.
In Autumn when men were going to gather the potatoes for themselves, or for the farmers, they got rushes and sallies and wove them together, thus making a potato basket for themselves. Even nowadays people have thatched houses, an they thatched them with sheaves of straw.
