Some people have a belief that when they wash their feet the water should be immediatly thrown out as it is unlucky to leave it in the house over night. Others say to leave it in the house over night and to put a lighted stick in it.
Clogs were worn around here about one hundred years ago. They had a wooden sole and a red upper. Some people wear them still around here. They were made in Bunclody, they got the alder trees in a bog around here.
There was a tannery in Clonegal one time. There was another tannery in Tullow. People wore buskins at one time, they were made of leather, and were tied with strings. They also made some kind of boots from the raw skins of animals.
They also made clogs in Coolaphooka with very heavy wooden soles and the upper from the untanned skins of animals.
