- (continued from previous page)is sold at a fair, when the man pays him the other man gives him back a couple of shillings for luck. It is called the "Luck".
When the bargain is made between two men, one man strikes the other mans hand to show they have made an agreement. When they are paying one another they spit on the hand that the money is in. When a man buys cattle off you he marks them by putting a hole in the right ear, or by putting tar on its forehead. The halter made of rope is given to the buyer by the seller to bring home the animal.
There is a great sheep sale in Roundwood every year, where nothing but sheep are sold and also a male sheep fair about the same time.
Up in Wicklow town there is always a horse fair and the folk of this district bring any horses they want to sell up there.(continues on next page)- Collector
