Mr Gilbert is the man that is shoemaker at present for this district of Roundwood.
Mr Gilbert's father and mother used to shoemake. Mrs Gilbert used to only mend them. They were working at that for about fifty years before they died, and now their son Willie Gilbert is carrying on the work. Clogs are still worn by some farmers in this district, but they are bought in shops. There are more bootmakers in this district than long ago, because the people wear more boots now than in former times. When the people have Chilblains they wear canvas tied around their feet instead of boots, or sometimes they wear three or four pairs of stockings because they cant get into their boots.
