  1. The old School In Aughrim
My granny told me that she went to an old school in Aughrim over sixty years ago.
It is now Mr. Murphy's garage. It is underground.
It was a mixed school and there were two teachers. Their names were Miss Goss who was the head teacher and Miss Power who was the other teacher. They had two rooms off the school in which they slept and got their food. When they left Miss Pointon came in their places.
In the year 1894 a new Boys' and Girls' Schools were built and Miss Poynton came to teach as Principal Teacher of the Girls' School.
After some years she married Mr Mac Sweeney, Principal Boys' School. They still live in Tinnakilly.
