  1. Local Roads
    The names of the local roads are the "Dowra Road" "The Swanlinbar Road" and "The Blacklion Road" There is a cross roads and one road leads to Dowra, one to Blacklion and one to Swanlinbar. There are many other little relief roads leading up to the mountains and bogs.
    There is a very old road in this district. It was made about the year 1840. It is not used nowadays. It led to the town of Cavan. The engineers who planned it were not skilful because it ran straight up hill and down slope Any beast of burden could only carry a very light load. Sometime afterwards a better road was made. The general rate of wages was about tenpence a day. In 1847 a road was made off this road. At first it was made at both ends and the middle part was not made until 1897 when bridges were put on.
    Before that there were fords on the rivers. One time a man on horse back was crossing one of these fords there was a large flood in the river. When the horse was in the centre he stumbled and threw the man into the river. He was drowned and next day he was found a mile away from the ford.
