    Came into the field;
    For to discoorse with him
    It was her intent,
    With her dog and her gun
    Then to meet him she went.
    "I thought you'd be in
    At the wedding", she cried,
    "To wait on the squire
    And to give him the bride":
    "Oh no", said the farmer
    "I'll take sword in hand,
    And by honour I'll gain her
    If e'er she comes on."
    It pleaseth the lady
    To find him so bold,
    And she gave him a glove
    That was flowered with gold,
    And told him she found it
    While coming along,
