    From Cavan hills and Fermanagh gay,
    Saying, '' Where is the offspring of the stranger
    That does oppose us on our Church to-day.

    When the milesians were all assembled
    And ranged in order, in septs and clans,
    I heard one Chieftain say to another,
    '' What keeps our brethren from unfaithful Glan. ''

    Our Montiagh brave! - have you been divided?
    You once wore laurels, though now a slave ;
    Your sons of old around the likes of Macken,
    Would lose their lives as their Chapel save.
