    every morning. They had no pens but they used quills instead. All the books were writen with pen. It was all English and no Irish was thought. The teacher never stayed long in one place. In Winter they were given a barn to teach in. There was a hedge school in quiry (?). The masters name was Mr Smith. He lived in one of the houses near the school. He only stead about a month at it and some of the children stead until they were twenty years of age. In those days there were no guards and they could stay as long as they liked at school. His pay was about 10s a week. They wrote with quills. The Master had a couple of books writen with pen. He thought all English and no Irish. In Winter he was given a barn to teach in.
