There are numerous in this locality. Deggan Fort near Coolboyogue School is on a high hill from which there is a great view. You can see many other forts from it, one to the west at Drumullig, where it is said there is a buried pot of gold (see page 9). Another fort is east at Regaskin, as well as the Cross forts and another S.W. at Killagoan. People say they were old fighting centres, where the Danes used to stay. You can walk under Deggan fort: there is a flat stone in Connolly land closing the entrance to it.- Collector
