- There are no black-smiths in my district. There are two in Ballinagh and two in Cavan. The forges are slated. They make ploughs harrows spades shovels and many other things and they make shoes for horses and ponies and asses they shoe no cattle. Often the smiths hang a shoe out side the forge for luck.
