By the time the crosses are made the neighbors begin to gather in. On the occasion a big pot of rice is boiled and is distributed among the people by Brigid. When this si over the rest of the night is spent in amusement on different kinds.
St. Brigid's day is often called Candlesmas day. There are many proverbs or old sayings regarding this day as "if Candlesmas day be fair and clear we will have two winters in the year" or "at Candlesmasday you may throw half of the candle away". These proverbs are still alive and are always fallen back on to foretell weather conditions.
