    The scholars they are on the fly
    For writing pens he out does cry.
    Each one scrambling for his own

    For boys and girls there copies trace
    Even where the loved Host was laid
    The scribblers did invade.
    Until the round faced Fr. Owen,
    His anger on them made it known
    With whip and stick, with indignation
    For their thoughtless desecration.
    The branches taught were held aloft.
    Reading, writing, and the gaugh.
    Grammar there was not a word,
    That, foolishly, was thought absurd
    Other branches a man may need,
    But grammar absent he can't succeed.
    Though life he'll deeply mourn its loss
    For all his utterness will want a gloss.
