  1. There are a great many signs in this locality by which people judge the weather.
    Domestic animals as weather signs.
When a cat sits with his back to the fire it is supposed to be a sign of rain and also when he coughs.
When the cat is seen scraping the leg of a table or the trunk of a tree it is a sign of storm.
When the dog eats grass it is a sign of rain.
When calves and lambs play in the fields it is a sign of good weather. When cows seek shelter in rain it is a sign that it will only be a shower, but when they remain out through the fields during rain it is a sign of a complete wet day.
Fowl and wild birds as weather signs.
When geese fly against the wind it is a sign of storm.
When hens go up in the trees it is a sign of snow and storm.
When ducks go around quacking on the street it is a sign of rain.
