    the month of October the potatoes are dug out by means of a spade. They are picked into buckets by the young boys and girls, and put in a long pit, covered by straw and clay. The potatoes mostly used are, Kerr's Pinks, Arran Chiefs, and Epicures. Kerrs Pinks are the most plentiful crop in this district.
