- People had three meals a day in olden times. They were eaten at 9 a.m, at 2 p.m, and at 9 p.m. People worked in the morning from 6.a.m without food. The breakfast consisted of oatmeal porridge and butter, the dinner of potatoes and and buttermilk. The people sat around a basket on the middle of the floor. On this basket the potatoes were placed. At breakfast and supper the people sat around the pot containing the porridge. Sometimes a drop of tea and wheatenbread were taken for breakfast. On special occasions, such as the night before Ash Wednesday beef and vegetables or fish and vegetables were eaten. On Easter Sunday, there used to be a bet to see who would(continues on next page)
