- (continued from previous page)were made at the bride's and groom's houses for the great feast. The relatives went to town and got all the spirits and meat they could afford to purchase.
All their friends and wellwishers were invited to the wedding. The bride was anxious to have 'something old, something new, something borrowed, and something blue with her for luck'.
The groom and his party drove to the bride's house on the wedding morning on 'post' cars or perhaps on horse back. Husbands carried their wives behind them on the saddle, and others their sweethearts.
After spending the day in the bride's house, they started to the chapel for the marriage cermony. After the marriage, they returned home to the groom's house, but the best of the homecoming was the race for the 'bottle of whiskey.'
Whatever horseman came first got the 'bottle' and had the honour of treating the party as they came.
The wedding in the groom's house lasted till next morning. During the night the straw boys came looking(continues on next page)
