- The best known poet in this district is Peter Smith, better known by the name of 'Peter Porrow Ruadh'. Peter Smith was born in Stragh, and reared a family there. He lived to be ninety eight years of age.
This poet is dead over a quarter of a century. He was a man of great talent, though not a scholar. He could compose a song or a rhyme in a few minutes. The best known song made by him was 'The Hackler from Grousehall', 'Petty's Cat from Mudwallrow'.
He made these songs in English. His occupation was farming. He was buried in Lower Lavey. He started to make songs himself. The songs he made are still sung in this district.- Collector
