- At a wedding in Cruicín: there was plenty of poteen (people said the bride's mother could produce it by witchcraft). The driver of the party was Goldrick, who worked for Kells of Killeshandra. There was a kickety mare in the car driven by the groom.
When about to start for home the men could not get the animal in the car with her vicious kicking. The old lady came out and made a few passes over the animal with her two hands, which left her as quiet as an ass. This old lady was also a butter-lifter.
