- This vessel of a strange make was used for another purpose besides the melting of grease for rush candles.
It seems the lead balls used in the old guns had to be made at home. The lead was melted in the grisset.
A mould which resembled a pair of pincers was used. This had a small vacancy into which the [?] lead was poured. The mouth of the "pincers" was then opened and out dropped the ball into a bucket of cold water. The balls had a sort of small "teat" attached which was trimmed off later with a knife.[?]- Collector
