- (continued from previous page)- close by our house at the head of the lane. As usual a slatternly woman gets the blame for this change. We have a small orchard but most of the trees are Early Ones, soft apples commonly called "Cabbage Stalks" which do not keep long when pulled, so are useless as for sale.We have one field, and if ever young calves are put there to graze, "Black Leg" carries off one. So they have to be kept off there. One of the fields is called the Flaxhole field, there is no flax to put in it now: The fences are thick and strong, all whitethorn. Very few whin bushes are to be seen, there are a few Holly trees. We have 6 ewes and 11 lambs. In the field next to us is the "Pole Hill" which is said to be the highest "hill" in Ireland. From that hill lakes can be seen, these form portions of the river Erne.P.S. We have no Shannon Poles on our [?] lands.
