- Mild shone the moon o'er Sheelin's wave,
And silent night involved the world,
When Orwin left his secret cave,
Where round his home the white waves curled:
From splendid domes and festive halls,
By war's oppressive power driven,
Alone he mourned an early fall -
Nor felt a hope save that of heaven.
The last of Irish Chiefs he
Who dared to brave proud Cromwell's power -
Now conquered and compelled to flee
For safety to this moss grown tower.Within a solitary Isle,
By Sheelin's murmuring wave surrounded,
The ruins of Gothic pile
Received him joyless and confounded.
Lonely he wandered on the shore,
And signed for friends in battle fallen:
Again he sees them drenched in gore
As fondly each dear name's recalled
"Where are the brave" he sadly cried,
