- There are many forges in our school district. One is situated in the Townland of Crosserlough. The Smith is named Thomas Mc Kiernan and he got his trade from his father who resided there and built this forge. The old man's name was Jimmy Mc Kiernan locally known as "Jimmy the Jingler" because of the jingling noise he made on the anvil. This forge is of great convenience to the people around because it is situated on the side of the road. There is also a little stream running past where the Smith gets water that cools his irons. There is an old legend told that when the Smith washed his hands in this water he is refreshed and made stronger. He has many utensils in the forge, the anvil, the sledge and the tongs. There is a large bellows beside the fire for brightening it up. It is round in shape and goes in a point at one end. The anvil is a great lump of on which the Smith puts the hot iron he is beating into shape with the sledge.
