- Long ago in this neighbourhood certain games were played around the fire-side by the young people. One of the games was "M onchock". All the players in the game sit around the fire-side, one of those who take part gets up and points to each persons leg in turn and saysLuar, Lar, limber, lock.
Five mice upon the flock,
They ast, they sung, till day-light sprung,
Up came Tom Tod with his long rod,
He swrore he'd whip them from wib to wab
Lennis [?] come here,
Lend me a spear.
Stick the bottle in the door.
Monchock?While doing this he points to each person's leg and the person's leg that the word "Monchock" comes on pulls in his leg, and so on until all the legs are in.
The owner of the last leg in has to do some penance, such as to go out and walk around the house three times in succession, or to let three cheers outside the house.Another game of long ago was Shove the(continues on next page)- Collector
