- A Legend about Gray's Fort
Drumbee, Kilnaleck.Once upon a time there lived a man named Reilly in the townland of Drumbrath. This man had it arranged to have a party so he invited a number of his friends and neighbours to it. After a hearty meal they gathered around the fire and commenced telling stories they did not feel the time passing till it became very late and the visitors got up to go home. The night was very dark and they had to go through the fields over ditches and shoughs. Among the visitors was a fairly old woman named Mary and she was not able to make her way the others helped her along they were approaching Gray's fort of Drumbee and when they reached the far side of the fort they looked around to see where Mary was to their great surprise she had disappeared. They retraced their steps searching for her for some time. The night was pitch dark and so they had no lamp they started shouting her name till they were nearly hoarse. Even now they did not realise that she was gone and for another quarter of an hour they continued on heir search but they failed so they thought she had just vanished because(continues on next page)- Collector
