When every parish had its sports and held its pattern day,
Thousands came from every part that glorious sight to see
Horse racing, and cock fioghting and every spree,
The pipers, fiddlers came to the bush of Ardleny.

The gallant men of Ardleny put them through their drill,
They ramsacked all before them and destroyed the county till they were met by Captain Kiernan at the bush of Ardleny

But they wounded captain Kiernan at the bush of Ardleny
