was called "A tanner". A shilling was called "a bob," and a pound "a quid". The fourpenny, the fivepenny and tenpenny bits are gone out of use now. The fourshilling piece sometimes called the double-florin is out of use. The gold guinea sovereign and half sovereign are also out of use.

Long ago the day for selling tea was on a Tuesday and the day for selling the sugar was on a Thursday, and the day for the bread was on a Saturday. People would buy as much on these days as would bring them in until the next selling day.
