There is a part of the forge work done in the open air. When he is putting the shoeing on the wheel of a cart it is done outside. There is a big iron wheel on the ground and there is a fire of turf put in the middle of it, then there is a narrow iron band left in the fire and when it is red hot it is hammered down on the wheel of the cart.
There is a belief that forge water cures warts. It is said that smiths have the power to cure a disease called thrush.
