    Their breakfast consisted of potatoes and oaten bread because they had their own oatmeal.
    Buttermilk was drunk at nearly every meal.
    The people used to sit round a basket of potatoes in the centre of the floor and sometimes they would sit round a pat of porridge.
    The table was hinged against the wall and laid out flat when not in use.
    Meat was seldom used except at Christmas and on the eleventh of November they said it was right to spill blood for St Martin. Geese were mostly eaten.
