- In olden days there was no district that hadn't its ghost story or a tale about a bean sidhe, Banshee, or some tale about the Good People, Lepreachan or hob-Goblins. Whether they were real or fancied the younger folk now does not know. However such tales were told. There is a large round rock of large dimensions in the locality called Carrick-a-puca rock and it was supposed that the fairies dwelt there. There was a man coming from Ballyjamesduff late one night many years ago named Mc Dermott and had an occasion to pass around this rock and just as he came to the fort of the rock he imagined that he was in the centre of a big fair. He saw what he considered countless hundreds of little men and women selling and buying cattle, horses, pigs and everything that was sold in a fair.(continues on next page)
