  2. The Local Forge

    There are four forges in the parish of Lurgan. There is one in Lurgan, two in Virginia and one in Maghera. The one in Lurgan is situated beside a cross-roads.
    The forge is a house with a door on it in the shape of a horse shoe. The forge is slated. There is one fireplace inside. The bellows is fixed in the wall with a handle attached to it. The bellows is not made locally. In working the blacksmith uses an anvil, a hammer, a sledge, tongs and a bellows. The smith shoes horses and asses
