    on an iron before the fire. They made another kind of bread with potatoes and oat meal. The meat they ate in olden times was generally veal. They would kill all the yound calves and they would fatten the bullocks and kill them for meat. Fish were eaten any time they would get them and also vegetables.
    They kept feast days such as Christmas and Easter and they would buy a stone of flour for to make flour bread for those two days. They did not eat any eggs the whole year round, but when Easter came they ate about a dozen eggs at a time. Tea only began to be used about eighty years ago.

    While cutting turf in Annaharnate bog, Killinkere, the Mallon brothers found an ancient sandal or shoe at a depth of fourteen feet. Beside it were the cinders of a timber fire. Over all was a layer of bog material to a height of fourteen
