    their spades and had to go home.
    There are many golden treasures said to be buried in the parish of Mullagh. At the time of the Norman invasion there was a castle on the shores of Mullagh lake. It is said that all the gold and valuables belonging to it were packed in a large oak chest and two bullocks were yoked to the chest and driven into the lake until they disappeared beneath the waters. There is also said to be a top boot filled with gold somewhere in the ditch between the gates of Mullagh and Cliffergool Cross, a robber named Bollard hid it there. He was afterwards hanged in Cavan jail and before he died he confessed to having hid the gold there. It is not
