- About five miles from this school stands a hill on the top of which is a big house. A foreign lady used to come and spend the summer months there. A farmer named Patrick Daly in that district used to turn out his cattle to graze on the green slopes of the hill. It happened that the hill was an old fairy ground and when the cattle were on it a few nights they were frightened and people say that they saw the fairies.
One night in the harvest time the cattle were lying quietly, they were roused and ran about as if they were mad. Many of the cattle died with fright. Some fell into rivers and were drowned, others fell over the cliffs and were killed. Not a herdsman dared to keep watch over the cattle at night. The farmers offered them big wages but no one could be found to face the fairies so Patrick never put the cattle on the hill again.- Informant
