- My native parish is Killinkere, or in Irish "Cillín Ciar", meaning the little black church, which got its name for the following reason in Penal Times.
At that time the priests were not allowed to say mass and so they had to say it behind the rocks or in some secret place while crowds gathered from the surrounding places to hear it. Others stood outside to see if the troops were coming.
