- This is Lisnagirl number II school. It is called that name because in the landlord's time no Catholic school was allowed to be built and all children had to (go) attend the Protestant School in Lisnagirl. Father Bernard McCabe and Catholic parents were not satisfied when their children had to go to a Protestant School. Father McCabe started school in Pat Flynn's room in 24th June eighteen eighty nine and Miss Lynch taught school. There were no seats and they used to write on slates because neither pencil nor jotter was used that time. Later Father McCabe started collecting money to get a Catholic school built, and had great trouble in getting it started. Father McCabe wanted(continues on next page)
