    the churning and she is sometimes helped by the other members of the house. The old custom long ago was to do the churning very early in the morning and should a stranger happen to come in during the work he should say God bless the work and take a "brash" at the churn. If they did not do this it was supposed to be unlucky. The churning takes about half-hour and it is done by hand and the dash by hand and the dash is always moved upwards and downwards.
