The people long ago used carts made like vans with low wide wooden wheels. They would go to the wood and cut the very large trees and cut them about a foot wide and burn a hole through them. The wheel was made firm on the axle and when the wheel turns the axle turns too. The axle was kept in position by two bent pieces of iron fixed in the body. The body of the cart rusted in the axle when it moved along it made a squeaking noise. Old butter was carried on the straddle to grease it and keep if from squeaking.
