  1. I went to Dublin to view Banack St,
    A tight hardy fellow and smart on my feet.
    I came across a damsel called Bessie McClean.
    She brought me to lodging to petticoat lane.
    Early the next morning my Bessie was gone,
    And five drunken girls, the fight they began.
    Blood and eyes was I married last night
    'Deed you were to a handsome young wife.
    I got an ould pair of shoes I put on in a fright.
    And I ran up street to look for my wife.
    One of these fellows the police did call.
    That I took her shoes that lay in the hall.
    They brought me to justice and she swore to her shoes
    That a good boy in Dublin but did me abuse.
    They brought me to jail and they locked me up tight,
    I doubt she'd a blanket the length of the night
