In June the drills are moulded and the ridges shovelled. If there be any weeds in them, they are wed and sprayed. The potatoes are dug in Autumn. My father and brothers dig them with a potato-digger. They are then put in "pits" and covered with rushes and clay.
The names of some varieties of potatoes, are, Lumpers, Kerr's-pinks, Epicures, Champions, Arran Victors, Beatty's of Harue. Kerr's-pinks grow best on our farm.
