I
T'was in old County Cavan one fine summer's morning
As the bright orb of day was appearing in view.
And the lark had returned from her early devotion,
Her wings dripping wet with the sweet balmy dew.
II
I gazed from her hillsides in fond contemplation
As the wide spreading landscape lay full in my view,
With haunts of my childhood; their fond recollections
And scenes which my infancy tenderly knew.
III
Fare you well, happy fields where in life's early morning
I often have wandered light-hearted and gay.
With the little red robin its wild notes were chanting,
and hawthorn blossoms were scenting the hay.(continues on next page)
