    raise a large sum of money. Others used to sell porringers. Some of the women folk used to make all sort of fancy good such as rugs and quilts. Others still would sell carpets and flowers. They could make the flowers themselves and they would look as if they were real. They would live in a camp at the crossroads.
    Funny stories are related of travellers. A traveller who was good at dealing and match - making had an old friend who was simple and very poor. On that account the poor fellow could not get a wife. To his grief no one would look at him. It happened this traveller had made friends with an old pair and their daughter and he suggested to the fellow to get the girl. With that intention the two fellows set out to the house and the traveller after introducing his supposed rich friend explained the cause of their coming. All "went down" well with the future father - in - law but the wife said didn't like the looks of him. "God bless your soul" said the man "you'll be ramming" through gold all your life if you get him". Having taken him at his word the marriage came off. In a few days the parents
