- The ruined old forge in this district was owned by Hughie Boylan in Cornasaus. In this forge he made ploughs, harrows, gates, farm tools, pikes and axes.
He also shod horses, asses and bullocks. Long ago the people of this district used to plough with bullock.
There is a lot of superstition attached to the forge. The water from the smith's "through" is a cure for the rickets. The smith's wife has the cure of warts. If she touches them with her finger they will disappear in three days.
The tools the smith uses are :- an anvil, a vice, a hammer, a drill, a forge-bellows, tongs, a cutter, a punch, a rasp, a knife, and a sledge. He used the anvil for hammering the iron on. The vice is(continues on next page)- Collector
