- People were superstitious as regards the days on which they got married. On no account would they marry on a Thursday or a Friday. They believed entirely in the following rhyme.
"Monday for wealth,
Tuesday for health,
Wednesday the best day of all,
Thursday for crosses,
Friday for losses, and,
Saturday no luck at all."
They were also superstitious as regards the colour of dress that the bride wore on her marriage day. They believed that,
"Marry in white you're choosing alright,
Marry in yellow, you will be ashamed of your fellow,
Marry in blue he is sure to be true,
Marry in black you wish you were back."
Long ago marriage was seldom ever cried out in May. They said "Marry in May and you will soon be be laid in clay". They would also like to have a marriage carried out on a good day. They believed in the saying, "It is happy(leanann ar an chéad leathanach eile)
