- The Mission Cross
(This incident is told by many people)
Cathal O'Raghallaigh About thirty years ago there was a mission cross put up in the chapel yard in Arvagh. (Cavan)
A very bigoted Orangeman came along in the dead of the night and broke the cross and pulled it down. He died in a few years, although he was a strong, young man and he was buried as usual.
After the burial blood began to come up around the sides of the grave so that the ground all round was soaked with it. His friends used to bring lime and shake it all over the grave trying to hide it but it was no use. For nine days it was plain to be seen and crowds used to go to look at it.- Collector
