    The last day of Shrove is called Pancake Tuesday or Shrove Tuesday On this day everyone eats a lot of pancakes to keep up the old custom.
    There are plenty of matches made in this district. Money is given as a dowry according to the means of the bride's father. Long ago stock or goods were given instead of money but it is not done now.
    Any old people living around here do not remember marriages to take place in houses.
    When the bride and bridegroom are leaving the church confetti and rice are shaken on them. When they are going on their honeymoon, an old boot or tin-can is tied on the back of the car, to bring luck on them. There is a wedding feast, held in the brides house. "Strawboys" used to visit the bride's house on the night of the wedding. They were dressed in straw from head to foot, and hats made in the shape of a sheafe of oats
