- (continued from previous page)churning would be going on. It take a quarter of an hour to do the churning. The churn we use is twisted with a handle. When the churning would be done the handle is turned backwards to gather the butter then rocked.
People know when the butter is mad when they see it in large grains. In the winter hot water is poured in and the in summer cold water is poured in. Water helps to churn quickly. When the butter is churned it is taken out of the churn and the milk well washed from the butter and then salted and put into rolls.
Long churning makes bad butter.
Buttermilk is given to calves and pigs to drink also cakes are made from it.- Collector
