    got its name from the big plain of oak trees which grew there.
    Kilglass Cemetry (one mile outside Longwood) got its name from a "Grey Church" which was there long ago. In this cemetry are the remains of Thomas Allen who fought with Paraic Pearse in 1916 rebellion. Thomas Allen himself (not his remains) is supposed to have been born in the village of Longwood.
