- In olden times people did not wear boots or shoes till they were about thirty years of age. Some very old people never did wear boots. A woman named Mrs McDonnell of Shean never wore boots although she was over seventy years of age. She died a couple of years ago. Most children go barefooted in the Summer time and they wear shoes or boots during the winter. There are two shoemakers in this district their names are Jonnie Keenan and Eddie Gorman. Eddie Gorman's father was a shoe-maker before him and his son is a shoemaker. Jonnie Keenan learned the trade himself he only does repairs but Gorman makes boots. Clogs are not so much wore now but long ago the people wore them always during the Winter. They are not made in this district. They are made in Clones and the shopkeepers get them from Clones.
